I have a user who's experiencing a problem processing commands from a command line interface.

Command prompt will open, and I can run DIR, however, when I attempt to use EDIT the window closes abruptly with no error message. Any programs that use the command line interface are also closing without error messages.

Any thoughts? Anyone?

Is there anything relevant in Event Viewer?
How is he calling up the command prompt?

Shot in the dark here: There may be a virus mucking around with the command.com. Try replacing it with a clean one from another machine.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Thanks vaucunita, I'll give it a shot!

I'd try also "cmd /c edit" from command line to check if you can see any error message

Cheers,

Do taskmanager & regedit work? Have you done any virus scans lately?
