I want to create a command button on my switchboard form that will open a report. HOWEVER, I want to limit the people who can view this report as it contains personal information. Is there a way to create a macro that first prompts you for a password and then if you enter the correct password opens the report for you? If so, how do you do it? Thanks!

Michelle,

You can indeed roll your own security, if you want. But it will end up being a big pain and providing little security. Best would be to dive into Access user-level security. It's a thick subject, and you'll resent me for telling you to deal with it just to protect one report. But it will soon become something you use for all of your databases.

I've got the MS FAQ on my website. Most people have to read it three or four times to "get it", and still have a question or two. But it really is the best place to start, and to come back to with questions.

Basically you'll want to secure your database and then check if the user is a member of an acceptable group before opening the report.

PS: Access security is NOT good enough to keep out someone who is maliciously prying. =============
