Hello,

Version: Microsoft office 2000 (not server, just standalone)

I currently have 5 project files for 5 projects. In these 5 projects I have 3 resources who are my programmers.

I wish to:

a) combine the project files into 1 file
b) assign the projects such that the programmers may only view and amend the %completion for their project only.

Can you tell me if

1) This can be done with project 2000 (standalone) - if so - how.
2) If not, I have the MSDN library, which I notice has Project 2002 Server on. If 1 (above) can't be done - can it be done with server? Again - if so - how.

I realise what i'm asking may require a lengthy answer, and send my sincere thanks to anyone who can answer.

Rob

It can't be done.

An MS Project file is an "all or nothing". If you can open it, you can see it in its entirety.

OTOH, you could work with a Master project. This would leave you with six projects: the five existing sub-projects and the Master project. By the way you have phrased your question, though, I infer that you have already explored and rejected this possibility.

Finally ... why do you want your staff to update % Completion? This merely tracks elapsed duration. You might be thinking about %Work Complete but I've run enough software projects to know that "I'm 60% done" is a statement which no content. Your tasks should be deliverables. Either you have the deliverable (100% work complete) or you don't (0% work complete).
