I'm trying to create a combination chart in Excel 2000 using stacked bars (columns) and a line. This is not a built-in chart --how do I go about doing that? I've got a stacked bars chart created, but how can I add a line graph to it?

Or in the very least, I can't seem to get the built-in chart (line-column) to work with my data?? How do I tell it which column(s) of data to use for the line portion of the chart? It seems to randomly switch from a column to line chart within my data series.....??

Thanks!

Hi,

To add another series with another chart style...

1. Copy the new series

2. Acitvate the chart

3. menu item Edit/PasteSpecial

4. with the new series selected right click in chart and select chart type and then the style you want.

Hope this helps :-)

Thanks Skip, but it just changed my stacked bars chart to a line chart.....I want a line chart "superimposed" onto my stacked bars chart.....is that what you were telling me how to do? I highlighted the data series that I wanted for my line chart (which is on the same sheet as the other data series for the stacked bars chart), I switched to the sheet that had my stacked bars chart and clicked on the chart to activate it, then clicked on Edit/Paste special, then went right-clicked on the chart and selected a line chart......that's when it changed to a line chart from a stacked bars chart.....?????? what did i do wrong?

Thanks!

I think that you are confusing DATA RANGE and DATA SERIES.

The DATA RANGE is in a table or list on your a sheet somewhere

The DATA SERIES in IN THE CHART OBJECT.

Select the DATA SERIES that you just added and with that series selected, open the Chart Type and select the Type os choice.
