I have a transaction processor which moves information into a database. I've written an ActiveX exe which monitors which route is currently being processed. The transaction processor and the database front end both share an instance of the ActiveX exe. When the transaction processor is started as an NT service I see two instances of the ActiveX exe in the task manager. How can I get them to use the same instance.

We're using VB6, NT Workstation 4 (service pack 6a) Colin Chevrier

Try setting the Instancing property of component to "MultiUse".

The NT Service typically (unless you override it) starts as LocalSystem user. When your other process tries to instantiate it, it's being started as a different user. Different users means different instances.
