color-changing background?

Hi, I am making a site where the user will be able to select their own background color via a color slider. The exact same thing has been used here:

http://www.virtualmuseum.ca/Exhibitions/Horizons

(Then go into a gallery, select a picture and press zoom & color tool)

Can anybody suggest the best way to go about doing this, or perhaps give me some tips? I am quite new to actionscript, but am well experienced with the animating side!
