Does network region codec set selection (G.711 intra region calls, G.729 for inter region calls) apply when configuring network regions that contain only analog and DCP phones?

In this case, network regions are LSPs conntected to the main site via a WAN. The LSPs are in the same area code so external calls will go over a couple of PRIs at the main site.

I read several documents about configuring network regions but the examples seem to apply to regions containing IP phones. Nothing about only DCP/analog.

Thanks in advance,

Hi,
Network regions allow you to create groups. For example all IP Phones in office A would be in region 1 with no compression, i.e 64k calls internally.
Any calls from office A to remote Office B would be region 2 with compression i.e 20k calls over WAN link.

This is for IP only.

If anyone can explain this any better, please do so.

Maybe location setting on media server can do that. I am not sure good luck.

Traffic between the LSPs and the main site is IP. So the codec you set up is for calls the calls going across the WAN. The phones may be analog or DCP, but when the phone makes a call from the PRI accross the WAN there needs to be a codec set for it to use.

It doesn't really matter what codec you use at the remote sites because there aren't any IP devices, but it's important to set a correct codec between regions.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. Although it appears the our customer will only be using DCP phones, I'll just specify G.711 (intra region) and G.729 (inter region) from the get go in case they want to add IP phones in the near future.

Thanks,

Seezer
