I am wanting to put my school newspaper online, and I was looking for a good CMS that I can use (or modify) to display our content. I know PHP/MySQL fairly well, however I would like to deploy this within as short a time as possible, and I dont want to code something that has already been coded. It just needs to have admin login, with article submissions via html forms. Perhaps poll support, but if it is not available, I can write that in myself. The articles need to have a way to display pictures along with them if this is possible. Any ideas?

I'd suggest if you have the ability to write it yourself, often the maintenance of something else equals or outweighs the development time.

But if that's just not an option do to time, hotscripts often comes up as a good place to find pre-written stuffs.

If I were to right my own... which I am considering... Any ideas as to how I would allow authors to add images to their articles? I know I could allocate template space for one image, and have the author upload the image... however this is not very flexible.... Would a Java WYSIWYG editor work... or is that too complicated?

check out here you should find exactly what you need in one of the tutorials - all source code is provided and it works just fine.
