Hi guys,

What are the possible causes and the solution to a new motherboard suffering from a CMOS Checksum error? I think either the chip is damaged in transit or the battery is dead (although I have checked it!)

Thanks

Hi,

Possible solution: go into CMOS setup, ensure everything is set correctly, save settings and reboot. Ensure the computer works correctly.

Remember that the CMOS memory is powered by a battery which on average will last a month to 6 weeks from fully charged to empty if the computer is powered off (it is recharged when the computer is on).
If the motherboard has not been on before in its current setup, I would run the PC for 24 hours solid to at least get a reasonable charge into the battery.
