Are the contacts on the battery making proper contact? Have you got the right kind of battery? ~Apex1x

Did you reset the bios? go into bios and set your preferences or just set to best performing, either way set the bios.
Martin Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

When you say that you changed the battery with a fresh one, does that mean a GOOD different one?

I woud take out the battery and test the voltage (should be around 3v), clear the CMOS by moving the jumper across for 5 seconds and then putting it back, replace battery if it is good and ensure the positive and negative faces are clean of human grime. Reboot, press Del or whatever to go into BIOS, reset BIOS to default. Leave the PC on for a couple of hours to charge the battery. Error! Keyboard not attached. Press F1 to continue

Little bit more info required. What kind of battery?
If coin type there is a possibility you bent the contact when you replaced it.
Or it can be as paparazi says, just need to reset the values and exit properly to rewrite the CMOS. Ed Fair
