My friend just purchased a new pc, with the afformentioned chip used on the motherboard. it has 3 sockets, line in, mic and speakers. the sound is fine and the drivers are the most up to date, but when i connect to my friends pc to use either messenger or roger wilco to chat (voice chat), i can hear myself played back to myself.

i can hear him very quietly but can hear myself played back very loudly. i have been using my mic to talk to alot of people and have never had this problem. it only occurs when his mic is plugged into his computer. if he unplugs the mic, i dont hear myself.

ive tried 2 mics and a microsoft gamevoice, still the same results. if anyone has any idea what the problem may be, please let me know. i think it may be a crossed wire, but any other ideas would be welcome. thanks

Your problem is quite simply. Feed back.

Not your traditional feedback you get at concerts however, with the squeels and squaks. What is happening is when you speak over the internet, there is a delay (depending on internet connection). This latency causes you to hear yourself back. You say "hello" into the microphone on your end, 2.5 seconds later, it plays out on your friends computer. Your friends microphone then picks up what was played through the speakers, and comes back to you. The reason you are loud, and your friend is quiet is the distance the mic is from the sound source (your friend, or the speakers) The best way to fix this problem is to have your friend turn off "full duplex" meaning that they cannot talk, and listen at the same time (like a cb radio, or walkie talkie). This will deactivate the mic whenever sound is comming through, so that it is not picket up by the mic, and retransmitted.
