I have a campus environment where I have several buildings which all have EPN's. Some of the EPN's are center stage attached, but not all. Some are ipsi attached. Our building maintenance people are going to power down one of our buildings completely. The building that is being powered down has the center stage located in it. Our S8730 servers are not located in that building so they will remain powered up. My question is do I just power down the cabinet with the center stage before they turn the power off or do I need to power ALL the epn's off that connect to the center stage?

I am sure someone will chime in and correct me if I am wrong, so here goes..

Your CSS is now just an EPN with your SNI carrier in it. So when it goes down all EPN,s that are connected to it(fiber or copper) are also going down unless they have IPSI links built to them.

When this was a G3 the system would like you to shut down the processor cabinet first because it wanted all the cabinets be show up as "Happy" when the PPN was powered down. So I think that is what I would do for the EPN that has you CSS in it. Power it off and get ready for lots and lots of alarms when it goes down.

Personally i would look at a temporary power source and not have my stuff go down, but that may just be me..

When is the last time you helped someone, just because you were able to?

so cabinets that have ipsi boards as well as fiber connections should stay up? The location of the cabinet is two stories below grade and not close to an outside entrance. probably 500ft from the closest outside door. voltage drop with that distance is going to be my enemy, probably have to run 4ga wire just to keep the voltage within spec.
