I have a cluster of two machines working perfectly accessing an iSCSI SAN where the quorum and the various data volumes are stored for our apps. Working great. What we want to do, and what MS says you can do, is set it up so certain apps (each is its own cluster resource) run on server A, then others on server B. This is not NLB, just logically balancing the resources between the machines. Running Citrix and our internal accounting, tech, and finance apps.

We have two other brand new boxes to add in, and want to utilize the resources best. Can someone give me a brief outline of how to do this?

This is AKA Active/Active clustering. You have two physical nodes within your environment. In MS Cluster you have a cluster group (containing cluster resources) that can run on either of your two physical nodes. What is being suggested is that you create another cluster group, create resources, and run it on the other node. So you have two servers (node1 and node2) and two cluster groups (ClusterResourceGroup1 and ClusterResourceGroup2). What you can do is run ClusterResourceGroup1 on node1 and ClusterResourceGroup2 on node2. Should you have a server issue, both groups can still run on one node.

Make sense????

regarding your other boxes....
You can create 2,4,8 node clusters depending on the Version of the Microsoft OS and the application(s) you will be installing. You will need to research as every solution vaires.

believe so, will give it a shot here after the holiday or if I get bored looking at the fireworks.

THanks

WhoKilledKenny,
Apparently I was not paying attention to your posts, sorry.

I already have our cluster setup as two nodes (will be adding a third in in August) with two sep groups. I am not sure what the problem is, maybe my quorum. I am setup with a quorum resource on one of the volumes on our iSCSI SAN. I am able to configure apps, print spooler, etc on the group with the IP, name, and quorum resource, and then take it offline and it fails to the second group just fine.

What I am not able to do is setup an app on group2 independent of group1. It is probaly that I have not setup a cluster since NT back in the day :)

Thanks, if you think it might be easier, I can provide my email to you.

Mike
ps, i think it was the super adventurers club that got him.
