Cloning or staging

Hi all,

I just setup an ATL P7000 to my NW 7.3.2 server and would like to utilize for cloning and or staging. I am currently writing my backus to disk and looking for better solution and ho0w to setup both.

i attempted to setup cloning, where I wanted to clone the volume and first ran into issues and got past that, now when I attempt I receive RPC errors on the host, other backups were running so not sure if this was cause. I went into the volume list did a right click and selcted clone, etc. My physical library is on a Storage Node and disk is assigned to NW server. In the clinet definition i have the Storage Node in the Clone Storage Node field but getting the RPC error. Any ideas?

Now if i wanted to setup staging not to familar with this. I backup my data to disk and want to stage on a physicla library that is attached to my storage node.

Any help wou;d be appreciated.

Hi,

with your RPC error, you probably want to check that you have all your name resolution correct. I would recommend you to use the hosts files on the backup server and storage node for the resolution between the two.

Ideally you would have a library and disk device on the same host, so you don't have to transfer all data over the network again.

For backups made to disk, you can use the Staging policies in the GUI to move data from an adv_file over to tape based on age or watermarks. That is sufficient for most.

The ultimate though is to do cloning immedialty after backup and let the save sets stay on disk for as long as possible. That involves some clever scripting though.
