Hi All,

I'm a total newbie when it comes to SCO unix, and I've been given the task to clone an existing SCO ( version 5.0.6)
Can anyone point me out in the right direction on how to pull that one off? On AIX its through an mksysb, but on SCO I haven't got a clue how to get started...

thx in advance

rgds,

R.

Norton's Ghost tool might do the trick nicely, although I've not tried it with SCO...

the machine is a production machine and cannot be shut down to be rebooted with any kind of bootdisk( the server has no diskette drive either ).If I recall well, you have to boot to a ghost server with a diskette, and then store the image onto the server. The drive is a RAID 1 scsi , does norton ghost support that?

rgds,

R.

I'm not sure whether Norton Ghost supports SCSI, sorry.

If it's RAID 1 and the drives are hot swappable, why not pull one of them and use it in the other server, put one of the new drives in the old server and resynchronise them?

practice your disaster recovery procedure...

take a look at your backup procedure... and determine what is not being backed up....if it is nothing then start up new box and restore your backup...otherwise setup as if it were a new install then restore your backup.

if it is a raid 1 mirror then get an similar box with an identical raid controller. shut down production system long enough to remove one of the drives, then restart it and put a new drive in its' place. if you remove one of the drives when it is running the image on the drive that you removed is usually junk unless you are very very lucky in your timing.

... usually junk unless you are very very lucky in your timing.

Hardly... if that were true then you'd be rebuilding your system every time it hung/crashed/lost power/etc.!

Anyway there is a licensing issue doing that ...

yes, "brand" or scoadmin license the restored system with your new license details.
