I have WinME on my Advent Laptop, and the clock (as in the bottom right of the screen when WinME has booted) keeps resetting the year to 2000. Why?

It's annoying, because it means I have to change it every time I turn on the Laptop (It messes with some of my application licenses).

Before you let the system boot to Windows (the next time you turn it on after leaving it off for a while), enter the BIOS configuration screen and check the system time there. If it also gets reset to 2000 each time, then perhaps you have a bad CMOS battery that needs replaced.

I already checked that. The CMOS clock is at 2003.

I would assume if it was that, anyway, that the date and time would also be reset.

However, my problem is only with the year. The date and time stay the same.

Well then, it can only be software that is running in Windows. Have you tried disabling everything from startup using msconfig?

If that gets around the problem, then re-enable a couple items at a time until you find the culprit.
