Clipart appearing as autoshape ?? 1

Office 2003.

In my teaching lab, on some workstations, when inserting a clipart it appears as a autoshape. i.e. an image box appears with no image, then right click within the box and select "edit image" the image appears with a grey box around it. But most of the normal image formatting options are not available.

I know some students have messed with something, but I cannot find what it is. (If I could identify the culprits, I will break their little fingers right off!!)

Anyone got a clue what might have been changed?

This may be something really simple: Tools, Options, View Tabs and clear the PicturePlaceholders check box.
