hi
i have a network consisting of a w2k sbs, acting as a domain controller, sql and mail server, w98se and w2k clients and one linux firewall
for whatever reason the clients connect to the internet not through the gateway set (linux box) but they send packets to the w2k box and this resends the requests to the linux box
now if i want to enable some internet access rights on the firewall to the clients i need to allow it to the w2k server - so it's not client based, everyone has the rights
i'm not sure if this behaviour is related to the active directory or what
any idea what could be the prob?

Not to sure if i'm understanding you right but, could it be that ISA on your sbs server is set up and that the clients have got this set as their proxy? Then the ISA is using your firewall as a gateway?

well, i'm not sure what ISA is :-|, but that's probably not so important ;-)
i stopped ISA, but the problem is the same
the clients have the gateway set in the network properties, i don't think it's set using ISA, ipconfig gives the proper gw
