Hi All

Is anybody here beta-testing the new client for Netware 7.x that is about to be released in Q3 2005 ?
Any experiences ?

Thx Till

Andreas

Hi Novelli

Really ? So you are one of the lucky ones. We have heard Legato has chosen just a very few number of beta testers.
So in which environment are you testing exactly ?
And what do you mean wwhen you say not really successful ?

Thx in advance

Till

SUN V490 Solaris 9 with Networker 7.2
Novell Netware 6.0 SP5 + NSS5C + TSAUP18 and 6.5 + SP3 + NSS Patch +TSAUP18

Till now, i get no authentication from the new 7.2 Networker Client to the TSA :-(

Btw, we are not a offical beta tester, but we put the knife on EMC/legatos breast because of a lot of problems with the 4.22.(02) client for Netware and get it for inoffical testings

Novelli

We´re using Legato 7.13 on a W2K3 box backing up a Netware 6.5 Cluster with 4 Nodes and several single boxes. Our main problem is that TSA is simply not available from time to time, and there is simply no rule in it.

The tsafs.nlm from tsa5up18 has made it a little better
but like others we would give a lot if we could test the 7.x client.
We tried hard to take part in the beta program but they gave it just to a very few number of testers :-(

Hi there Novelli,

Does the new client support the cluster in Netware?

Yes it will, when the client will run in the future..till now i cant get it running :-(

Novelli,
You think you can send me the beta binaries so I can test them here in my lab.

I would greatly appreciate it

Hi Novelli,

Similar request from me: could you upload on some ftp site NW Client version 7??
I have also registered for Beta program, but as several other colleagues in this forum I got the reply that there are too much candidates for Beta program, so I didn’t got in …

I know the problem with the beta programm...at the moment, the client i have got is defninitly not working....(can not authenticate against TSA)...when i got a working one, i will share it

Thanks Novelli,

Keep me posted on this.

By the way have you ever tested other backup solution that support Netware Clustering? Which ones? and what did you think?

Hi All

Because of the Legato weakness backing up NetWare Cluster we are testing SyncSort Backup Express at the moment. As far as I can say after 3 weeks of intense testing it runs really stable and smooth.
But like every other software it has weaknesses in other fields such as multiplexing and index growth issues.
And not to forget it is as expensive as Legato, so the invest would be high for us just to get rid of the NetWare Backup problem and possibly getting into other problems instead.

Wow Till that's so odd we are presently testing Syncsort also. Would you be willing to share your test results with me. Did you have some sort of testing grid/matrix. I would greatly appreciate it?

Hi Till,

This is not strictly connected with the topic of this thread, but you have replied to one colleague in one of NetWare threads that you have 2 patches for NetWare that could be useful in the case of NetWare restore problems.
As I have such problems (NW Server 7.2 Windows and NW Client Netware 4.22 – NetWare 6.5 SP2), could you provide me with these patches??
You can mail me on samir_at_email_dot_t-com_dot_hr.
Thanks.

hi brackovic, bombcan

The workaround I have is for Networker 7.1.3 for Windows only. So I really do not know if this will work under 7.2 also.

All I can say about BackupExpress is that it works fine in the Netware Cluster environment. You can switch virtual ressource from one node to the other and backup or recover continues.
The Syncsort guys say they are able to backup eveything better than any other software but they become silent when you're talking about EMC² SAN or technologies like for example RMAN.
I have found out that they have in fact problems with multiplexing and index growth...

Thanks Till,

As far as EMC² SAN what are you referring to, because I have EMC wall to wall here. The multiplexing stuff I've noticed some problems too.

As far as the Legato Neteware Cluster Client testing, did you get it working. Does it do what it is supposed to do.

Thanks again
