Hi, - I don't know if this is the correct posting for my problem but someone will tell me if it isn't (I hope).

I am running AVG anti virus (the free version) and now when I click on it to access the res shield or look for updates, it only stays visible for 2 seconds. It doesn't give me time to do anything. I have XP pro and AVG has been running like a dream for months.

Any ideas please.

Hi Mel,
There are a couple of nasties doing the rounds at the moment that check for known antivirus programs every few seconds and close/disable them if found.

Goto and run the free on-line virus checker.

If you are still having problems after that then Download Spybot and Adaware Run the scans on both pieces of software.

After all that If you are still having problems download Hijack This from and generate a startup log from clicking on Config then Misc Tools from within the software. Then post the log here.

Greg - Thank you, Thank you soooooooooo much. Did what you said and here are results:

Downloaded spybot and clicked on clean and ran it.
Said it could not clean, prog in use. (wormagobot.ao)
Detected 3 x nasties called,
bla,exe
scyhost.exe
bla.exe again (different location)

I then ran adaware:

This found 16 files and the little bug gave a bleep. I highlighted them all and quaranteened them.

Re-booted and now all is ok. I was able to get downloads from AVG and there was quite a lot.

Thanks again Greg - - 3 brownie points coming your way.

Greg - Forgot to say, - After running AVG it found the wormagobot.exe and then said all was healed.
