hi guys, i'm currently creating a report in version 8.5 of crystal for a VB program. i would like to have a drop down list parameter field instead of asking the user to type in information (i.e. "Book Type" from the "BOOK" field of an MDB). This is easily done if i know what the Database contains but this report is a general report used by all our clients and each client has different data in the "BOOKS" field.

Is there a way in which i can create a parameter drop down list in Crystal that reads values from the ("BOOK") field and add them to the drop-down list?

Can this be done in Crystal or VB?

I am very greatful for any help you can give me.

From crystal, when you create a parameter field, click on set default values, select from database, give it the table and field name and it will populate your drop down list.

The downside is that the results are not dynamic. If as new value is added to the database it will not create a new value in your drop down box. This is a very common request however.

Parameter lists can't change, so you can't have a list that knows where it is, or that reads the database for live data, unless you write your own VB front end. Then you can do a live query from the database and pass it to the reports parameter. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting
