tried to search forum first, but it's down temporarily ...

QUESTION IS ... i'm trying to clean the 3 drives in my tape loader. netbackup's HELP function is bad when it comes to 'defining a tape' as a cleaning tape ... how can i go about cleaning my 3 tape drives with the cleaning tapes i've imported into the loader?

thanks in advance for any help on this!!!

In your admin screen go to Actions -> Inventory Robot -> Select update volume configuration ( this will then enable your advanced options) Select Advanced options -> Barcode Rules : Finally most cleaning tapes have a unique barcode i.e. CLN001 I set a barcode rule for any tape that has a prefix of CLN to be a DLT Cleaning tape. If you have different types of media in the same library you may have to be more specific CLN001 = DLT Cleaning Tape
CLN002 = Half Inch Cleaning Tape
Let me know if this is what you needed. If your robot is controlling your cleanings (auto) then you may not have to specify this. Someone else may be able to speak to this??

thanks a bunch OHWS ... netbackup now sees the 3 tapes as cleaning tapes ... that works great now.

BUT :(

i try to right click on the actual drive in teh loader and select "clean now" ... as netbackup should now know that there are cleaning tapes in the library. i continue to get the same error:

"The following error occured while attempting to clean driver on media server. No cleaning tape is defined in the device's robot or 0 cleanings remaining"

each of the 3 tapes are set to 25 cleanings remaining. the media type on each tape is set as a 'cleaning tape' (DLT3_CLN) ... right clicking on the tape and chosing 'Label ...' is inoperable as the tape is set as a cleaning tape and labeling a tape is unavailable when that setting is set.

so what's next?!?! ;)

thanks again for all your help so far.

Our library (9310) is managed ACSLS not NB. The cleaning of the drives is all managed outside of NB. We have to use the ACSLS console to check on the status of the cleaning tapes. Could this be your problem?
