I have a sister site that has 2 clean rooms. The tech at the site is having a difficult time troubleshooting the phones because of the crap you have to go through to get access to the room. he can't remove the phone, because it sets of alarms and they only shut the room down twice a year for upgrades and repairs.

Is there some other solution for clean rooms that doesn't require the phone actually be in the room.

we have almost the same thing with 24 or's here at the hospital.. we get on the schedule with the cleaning staff and swap sets during the clean cycle.. we do not use digital sets due to the climate... analog wall phones, and yes the jr member of the staff does get to wear the mr clean outfit.. a clean room a a major electronics mfg is worse.. at that site they had explosion proof sets that they brought out.. then they auto-claved them on the way back in...

They have the GAI Tronics phones, but because the IT tech can't wear the bunny suit, it is really hard to fix the phone.

if they would not let you dress out for some reason, they must not need a phone

That is exactly what I told him. I can't imagine why they would restrict him.

I guess I was hoping that there was some other solution for a room like this. Maybe a phone that is flush against the wall in the clean room, but the back of the phone is on the other side of the wall....where you can actually work on it.

Why not put a phone in there that someone who does have access can easily remove and bring out, then the phone can be repaired outside, then placed back in service when it's cleaned.

I work in a hospital and what i do is give them a brand new phone and tell them to give me the old one. I do this in sterile areas and surgical areas.

Does it have to be a wall phone? Maybe a standard desk phone would be easier to exchange without the need to send in a technician?

Why does the phone need changing so frequently? Maybe a more robust phone would be less prone to problems and last longer. It would reduce the number of times the technician needs access to the room.

After looking at the phones I can understand the complications. It's a true clean room phone - some places have them neat $1500.

I am wonder if a more traditional phone would be approved with something as simple as these seals - they make them for LOTS of phone models.

Since they are used to handsfree and auto-answer, you'll probably be expected to produce at least handsfree - and if you need full-duplex and have to beat background noise, rig a couple 3904s with a full duplex adapter, set onto a small stainless panel that would allow the users to 'plug anf plat'

Keep one extra, sterile/clean phone in the room and they replace as needed and toss the old out like they do any other ne in same way they all the time

I just emailed this thread to my co-worker. I'm sure it will be helpful.
