Can anyone tell me how to configure for classic start menu?

The default install uses the XP version of the start menu which I never use. Suppose I'm to old to change but find the format more user friendly (for me).

Also, when I click on a task bar icon (after selecting it should be locked), ie for example, everything slides to the right. Is there anyway to truely lock the task bar?

The XP version? Er, no it doesn't, it's nothing like XP's start menu. And if you're using Windows 7 then you're obviously not too old to change!

The 'classic' start menu no longer exists in Win 7 but if you really want to you can get something like it with a third-party tool like this one.

Re your second point, maybe changing the icon grouping will help - in the Personalisation control panel click the 'Taskbar and Start Menu' link in the bottom left then try out different settings for the 'Taskbar buttons' drop-down.
