Hi all,

Building a Vista SP2 Bus OEM box on a new Dell OptiPlex 760. Once setup and complete I'm going to image it using ImageX.

Anyway, everything running fine - all good. However when a new user logs on (domain or local - doesn't matter) the classic start menu appears.
The end user can change it and the system remembers it fine - but it's just the default for some reason.

It's not a user group policy on the domain as it's happening to local users too and when logged on as a local user running RSOP has nearly nothing listed (IE and security settings - nothing to do with the start menu)

I suspect the default user account has it set somehow - but no idea at all how this is changed back to the new start menu...

Any ideas?!

Cheers,

Steve.

Can you create a new Default User Profile with the correct settings if you have not already tried that?

I think Vista is the same procedure as in XP.

HOW TO: Create a Custom Default User Profile (Q305709)

Some locations are different in Vista, and the user is only known as Default, there is no available built-in Administrator, so use an User with administrative rights instead, but the procedure is more or less the same.

C:\Users\Default is where the profile will be created and stored.

Some information about the Domain side of things is included in this thread.
