Hi. Am struggling with a crashing (bsod) pc running xppro sp2. Have reloaded XP and it's still crashing.
If I load XP with wireless stick in it repeatedly restarts before loading, or bsod's. If I put the stick in later it's fine, but if I then use my DVD it crashes the PC.

So in the olden days I'd have assumed an IRQ clash, but I've looked in XP help, and it seems both confusing and self-repairing.

Help? I'm fed up with this. Would a new (currently netgear) wireless stick fix this? Rather not, of course. I know they're cheap, but I'd rather a free solution....

What setting have you got for USB in the bios? Is it trying to boot from these devices?

Do you need a larger Power Supply Unit to run extra USB devices?

See if you can get any inspiration from these semi-related articles.

Do any of the USB devices require updated drivers or firmware from their manufacturer?

Is there any clues in the Device Manager or the Event Viewer?

The next thing we might need is the BSOD error code, message and any mentioned files

Try the USB "wireless stick" in another USB slot.

Find a way to test this workstation over an ethernet connection instead of wireless. If the same type of lockups or blue screen occur, then you know it's not the USB device.

Also, if you leave the wireless stick out of the system, does the DVD drive/burner work fine?
