Having an issue with time zones, I've downloaded a utility from eol which initially seemed to be working with my clients however, the past two days my citrix server has hung on office applications at the same exact time of day and I'm beginning to wonder if it's related as nothing obvious is appearing as cause, so I'm looking for another solution or idea as to why.

Hi,

Citrix by default will use the clients local time zone, unless it's not enabled.

Why would you want to install a time zone piece of software on a Citrix server??????????

Carl.

Hi Agj and Carl-

We are using software for this called Time Machine- WORKS GREAT!! The reason we are using it (Carl) is because my Farm is located in one central location with users logging in from all over the country- XPe's time zone has not worked for us- It's not 100%. Maybe I didn't set it up right but I chose "use local client time" or something like that on the properties of my farm in the CMC... Never got it working (?) But the 3rd party solution works great-

Agj- let me know if I can help :)

Hi Brandon,
yes exactly same issue, settings for local selected but not working at all locations on xpe, had a look at your time machine, almost looks the same as eol, do you know the origin background, did you have any issues when first installing - I had this working for a day, then it stopped working and seems to have hung my citrix server two days in a row, now not using, are you using enterprise server?

No, Here's my environment:

10 Metaframes: Windows 2000 SP3 / AD with Citrix XPe SP2, FR 3

Yeah, there's a long story behind who had their version of Time Machine first (EOL vs. SolutionSoft)- I actually believe there was a court case too... Anyway- I am using Time Machine on all 10 MetaFrames- I publish a desktop environment to about 250 - 300 users.

Setup Quirks:
1. Had to edit a Time Machine file's name of Central Standard Time Zone so that it matched my Citrix Server's syntax of the same time zone;
2. Had to delay the start of the Time Machine service at startup- had to make it dependent upon the HP Foundation Agents. It would try to start before the HP agents and it couldn't (reg-hak);
3. Had to make new W2k Global Groups for each office:
For example, Houston, TX office in the CST zone. Citrix servers are here in the EST zone. So, put all my Houston TX users in this new group and then tell Time Machine to set their clocks to Central Time Zone time :)

Basically, that's it.
Not very difficult at all.
I still can't figure out why my farm won't use the local time of it's users... ?????

Brandon

Problems with Time Zone and metaFrame are usually related to thin clients not passing time zone information fully (e.g. only passing GMT +/- as opposed to GMT + zone name) or the client's time zone not setup correctly.

just a note to say thanks this worked fine!

agi-
What did you end up using??
If you need help w/ setting it up, let me know- glad to help.

Brandon

Not sure if this may help but I had an issue where users in different time zones were entering data and the pick up times were incorrect because it was using the wrong time zones.

There are some otpions by opening the CMC, Right click at the very top on the name of your Farm, select properties, then go to MetaFrame XP Settings. There are some time zone options you can set there.
