Citrix - WindowsUpdate --- Installer Mode?

When you go to windows update to patch Internet Explorer, and download SP3, and whatnot, do you need to be in installer mode?

I have had mixed results by not running it in installer mode. Sometimes they seem to work and others they don't or they don't play nice. So as a rule, I usually run "change user /install" from a command prompt before running Windows updates.
