CITRIX/Terminal Server will not allow new connections

We have CITRIX running on a 2000 server in a 2000 domain, and we have a terminal licensing server (which is a DC) set up and activated. In Windows 2000 terminal services, you do not need a terminal server license when a 2000 machine (or higher) connects to the terminal server, only older machines, right? So when we try to connect to the CITRIX server with a 2000 machine or an XP Pro machine, it doesn't connect (if attempting to connect, it will bring up a rectangular box saying the the connection failed, and will start counting down from 30 seconds to ask if we want to try to connect again), and in terminal services licensing console it doesn't generate any new "Existing Windows 2000 Licenses". It is inconsistent; we have had other XP machines connect just fine, so what could be the problem?

I know you don't require CAL's for Win2K or XP but did you reboot the License server after installing ?

Could be a name resolution problem. Try plugging the servers Ip address into your ICA connection, rather than doing an auto-locate.

you might also check your ICA connection settings to make sure that everything is in order i.e. permissions and security group access. Are you using NFuse or just hitting the Metaframe servers directly.

Does the TERMINAL SERVER LICENSING SERVICE need to be on a Domain Controller for a Win2k Domain? Are there advantages/disadvantages of having it on a Domain Controller?

Can you have two TERMINAL SERVER LICENSING Services installed on 2 different servers (for redundancy in case one server goes down?) Do both need to be Domain Controllers?

Terminal server Licensing can be installed on a Workgroup machine, or a Domain controller. That about sums up your choices. You can have multiple license servers. You essentially would be pooling the licenses.

One more note about this thread....

Starting with the original issue: I experienced the same thing after rebuilding my Citrix server. Users couldn't connect... UNLESS I went to Registry, hklm\software\microsoft\mslicensing and deleted the mslicensing key. Worked as a one shot deal to get users in. I then un installed Terminal services and users are able to get in without problem. Long term I will need to reinstall terminal services (again) to figure out what happenned. But I now have some breathing room...
