In my scenario I have a conflict between Printer Management and Policy configs but the Printer Management wins. Why?
Details as follows:
Scenario:I have set up 3 Citrix Policies in Citrix Presentation Server v3 (MPS3 or CPS3) without the 2005.04 service pack but with the MPSE300W2K3R03 rollup hotfix pack. We are using Windows Server 2003 without SP1. We are using the Web Interface and ICA Web Client v8 (24737). I have just upgraded one site to client v9 (32649) but its too early to be sure of the findings from doing that. However my understanding is v8 for CPS3 and v9 for CPS4 so it shouldnt make a difference?
Policies as follows:
(3 Lowest Priority) Standard Policy for All XXX Users - this is a blanket config for all users and it says not to use local default printer.
(2) Local Default Printer Policy - this is used to define who gets to use their local default printer.
(1 Highest Priority) Shadowing Policy - this is used to define who gets to shadow who.
Most things are set in policy (3). The other two policies are very specific as described and all other settings are left as 'Not configured'.
Policy (3) is only assigned to members of a certain group who get to use an application called XXX.
Policy (2) is assigned to a second group of users who are also a member of the larger XXX group.
Policy (1) is assigned differently to let helpdesk staff do shadowing of appropriate users.
All settings in the Citrix Client Config (ICA listener config) other than 'Timesouts' are left as 'Inherit'. In particular the 'Default to Clients main printer' is left as inherit.
The Printer Management config is set up differently to the policies as this is for everyone else who doesnt use the XXX application. For example it specifies that network printers should be autocreated as client printers but the Citrix Policy (3) supposedly prevents this for those users.
If I check the 'Resultant Set' using the 'Search' facility, the desired effect is seen for each user.
All the Citrix documentation specifies that Citrix Policies override all other settings (except for encryption and shadowing where the most restrictive is applied).
BUT...
In actuality, each user gets the settings configured in the 'Printer Management' irrespective of their Citrix Policy configuration.
Why are the Citrix policies doing nothing? All thoughts very welcome.
