citrix login

Hello,

I am running citrix metaframe/clients and running an oracle database. It takes 2 to 6 mins (login time) to connect to an application using Oracle database, whereas before it took 30 secs. Also I have seen that citrix cpu shows 100% utilization for a couple of minutes during the login process. Is there any setting on the citrix server or client that delays the database connection?

Is it the actual log in time or what? If it's the actual log in time (time it takes for their app/desktop to load,etc.) then check to see what DIRs are copying over to the Ctx server if you are using roaming profiles... the bigger their profile = LONGER log in times...

The problem is not logging into the citrix session. The problem is after that. Hence roaming profiles may not come into picture here as they only have user default settings.

I open my application running on Oracle database and it takes 2~6 minutes to load the application. Before it took only 30~40 secs. I do not understand why its taking so long now. Can this be a Citrix issue?

Are these WAN or LAN users? Also, if you launch the Oracle app from the Citrix box as administrator, do you see the same delay?

It does not matter who the user is. Its taking the same amount of time and affects all users.

We have a new citrix box and tested it for only one user and still the login times are significant. The database part has been ruled out by testing. I feel its some parameter setting in Citrix.

Is there a significant difference being on either LAN or WAN?

Well, you get some additional caching running as a WAN connection. Check your connection and try changing it to WAN if it is not already.

Have you tried testing ICA Client and RDP connections to see if delay is the same?

One other thing, what version of Metaframe is this? New install or upgrade from earlier version?

We run an Oracle application here with no problems. LAN and WAN connections are used.

Did you recently upgrade to FR3, or win2k SP4?
Does it still take so long, if client drive mapping, and client printer creation is disabled?
