I have a Windows 2000 Server, SP3 with Citrix Metaframe 1.8 running on it. We initially set it up for 10 users, but now we have about 16-20 users on it daily. The problem I am having is that during the day users that are already connected won't be able to get on the Internet, access drives mapped to the main server, can't see/print to network printers or access their Exchange server mailbox. Other users on the same network running programs locally have no problems. It fixes it itself after a bit of time, and everything works ok again. Any ideas as to what might be causing this.

Thanks - Steve

Check your licensing, do you have enough? Also, review the event logs on the Citrix Server, they should offer some clues.

Good Luck.

I checked licenses and everything is fine there. Still have the problem. Any other suggestions.

It sometimes runs at a high cpu load because we have a bum program that will eat processor load. Sometimes hitting 90-100%. If we kill the process the server load drops to normal levels.

If I were you, I'd try to isolate the problem as much as I could. See if there is any kind of pattern to the problems, such as time of day or when using a specific application. If the problems occur with the same people each time, have them try a different workstation (one that hasn't failed at all if possible). If the problems follow them, it's gotta be something to do with the Citrix server (probably their individual environments). Check for any problems on the server. The event viewer might show something. If it doesn't follow them, it's probably something to do with the workstation or how it connects to the server. Try a different switch. If you're using just a regular hub, replace it with a switch. You might want to check the cabling or use something like a packet sniffer to look at the data being sent back and forth.

The CPU load is a major issue with dropping connections or not being able to contact the citrix server for new connections. Armtech is a good product for managing CPU usage and may be worth evaluating. I just finished evaluating it and am now purchasing it for the same issues.
