Cisco WAN Configuration Guide

Hello:_____ DSL and PPPOE with Verizon.
I recently embarked on the CCNA path and bought a 3640 router with 12.4(1a) IOS. In addition, I purchased a NM-1FE; NM-4t(serial);NM-1E modules for the router. I also got four 2514's (CCNP BSCI) and two 2950 switches.
Now all I have to do is connect the 3640 to my Verizon Westell modem/transceiver and my little network will be a living, breathing lab.........most beneficial I would think...
But, the problem is I need some help getting the 3640 connected to Verizon so I can route. Can you Help.
Maybe, a top down guide on the different elements that go into making the whole architecture work. I am really interested in learning how the whole thing is designed not just the configuration but--of course--I would like to get connected to Verizon with my 3640 as soon as I can.
