When my client authenticates to the server it connects however when it gets it IP address from the dhcp server the ip address and the default gateway are the same. Looks similar to this.

ip address 132.52.128.40
Subnet mask 255.255.252.0
default gateway 132.52.128.40

are there any communications/connectivity problems?

in many cases that will not hurt anything if it is a PPP based connection. it should just send all traffic out the respective interface.
i know that i always had that occur on my old dial-up account. it is almost the same as configuring this on a router 'ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 eth0'. are there any communication or reachability issues?
