Hi Thanks for the help. I am using POE so those pins are out. What I am trying to do is to find a way to make the LED on the switch to turn amber or blink so that I can identify what port the extended jack goes to. If I use a VOIP phone the LED will turn amber for about 6 seconds but I am not fast enough to run back and look. I know Fluke has a test set for about $1700 that will blink the port. I just thought there was an easier and less expensive solution. I tried forcing the port to 10 meg to see if the amber light would stay on but no luck. Thanks for any help.
I have multiple switches so I would have to get into each one to identify plus there are no computers at this point (in transition). Thanks for your help.
you could do this with the mac of a voip phone also. and the sho mac-address-table will show the interface out that the mac is attached to even if the device is attached thru several switches. just run the command on each device that the flagged interface attaches to. did that make sense? .
