Hi all,

I'm having issues w/ my cisco 2501/2501 router in that I can't get any of my serial interfaces line protocols to come up. I have switched both serial interfaces and serial cables. This isn't an intermittent problem, as I can't get them to come up. Have no Problems w/ my AUI's, and of course they have already been "no shutdown. Thanks in advance.

PS: Do you need clocking on both ends of serial IF going b/w routers?

AUI's - on your serial ports? AUI's are usually for your ethernet ports to convert to cat5 cabling. Your serial ports are the High Density 60-pin (HD60) ports. You don't need clocking on serial ports of both routers, but if you just have a cable between them (no CSU/DSU etc), then one end will need a DCE cable plugged in on one end (and DTE on the other router - possibly requiring two standard cisco cables to be joined), and a "clockrate" set on that DCE interface.

If you get to the point that you suspect the cabling is okay but you still have a problem, you can copy the output of a "SHOW INTERFACE" command to the Output Interpreter of

Hope that helps :)
