I will be starting to study for the remote access exam within the next month. Can anyone tell me the required hardware to simulate what will be on the test. I have
(2) 2501 and (1) 2514 router with (1) hayes modem. I am not sure if there is some other item I can purchase from ebay to aid in my preparation.

If you really want to do it right, then find a 1600 with a serial card and get the RS232 cable for serial to modem. The early 2500s (pre-2520)can not use the command physical-layer async
which puts you at something of a disavantage to practice parts of the dial up. Many times the config will be for a access server and a serial port. And the serial port needs to be told to be a async port since the default is sync.

If you can find a 1700 cheaper then the 1600, get it.. some get something which has a async capable port.

Cisco still insists you know how to configure a 700 series isdn router (ew ew ew). It has its own software and, in my opinion, learning it is a complete waste of grey matter. I actually just skimmed the section and relied on the other topics to counter the questions I knew I'd get wrong. (took the combined BCRAN, BCSN & BCMSN)
