running on a 2620 router is not allowing me to create subinterfaces on the Fa0/0 interface. Serson running is IOS (tm) C2600 Software (C2600-I-M), Version 12.3(5), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1). Basically when configuring a subinterface, say fa0/0.2, the encapsulation command is not allowed. Is this a problem with this version or is it a syntx issue? I have successfully created and configured subinterfaces on another 2620 running an older IOS (tm) C2600 Software (C2600-D-M), Version 12.1(5)T9, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1) so this leads me to believe it's either an IOS bug or my command is not correct. thanks for the help.

General,

thanks for your response. What I discovered so far is that one issue appears to be a command syntax problem. So far all the documentation I found conveys using either dot1Q, dot1q and dot1 Q for configuring subinterfaces on FA0/0 fastethernet interface. Playing with variations of this command, I found the 2620 router accepts the syntax "dot" followed by a space then either the number 1, 2, 3 etc to indicate the vlan you want to associated the dot1Q encapsulation applied to. I have to work it a bit more but I think I'm making headway.

thanks
