Basically my background is only in US T1's. I need to know what cards/cables I need to order to work with European/Central Asian E1 networks. My guess is that I just use a WIC-1T with a DB-15 cable, terminating in either twinax or rj45, depending on what the service provider gives me.. But I'm basically confused about how E1 works, since I've heard that the service provider provides the workings of the CSU/DSU (or is that only ISDN NT1?)

Thanks so much!

I've used the WIC-1t on many E1 connections in the UK. Its suitable for those type of circuits without any framing, the service providers termination provides the clock up to 2048k.

If the service you are connecting to is channelised (eg primary rate ISDN) then you'll need a different interface card.

I've seen the term E1 applied to both type of link, so you need to be clear with the service provider that the link is either structured or un-structured.
Aso there are various type of physical termination, usually either 15 pin X21 or RJ-45, depends on the provider.

Thanks for the reply! Just to be clear, the 'structured' means I'll need an external E1 DSU, and 'unstructured' means I'll be fine with the wic-1t?
