Am I correct in stating that configuring an IP Address for a Catalyst 3550 Switch would be only for management purposes or if I wanted to configure more than one VLAN and would like to route information between the VLANS?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Adding an IP address to a switch is for inband management only. And yes, you would have to add IP addresses to route vlans.

It is what it is!!

IP addresses are not necessary for a flat network design.
