Cisco 877 Slow Broadband

Hi all,

Since I installed an 877 at my office, our internet access has slowed down to almost dial up speed. I used the SDM to configure the router and VPN (which works fine). Anyone have any ideas on where I should start to look ?

Probably worth posting your configuration (minus any passwords).....

I use an 877 and the speed compared to any of the other Broadband ADSL routers I have tried is more or less the same. It could be an MTU issue?

Andy has a good point---default for Cisco is 1492---
router(config)#ip tcp adjust-mss 1492

Hi guys,

I've still not had chance to get to the site where this router is installed. Connecting remotely I can see that there is no mtu setting in the config at all. If I use the SDM to monitor the interfaces, then I can see that an MTU setting of 1500 is being used. Can I change this from SDM at all or must I be connected via the console cable locally ? do you have a pppoe service? or is it a bridged connection? which ends up being basically a lan extension.

Hi,

It's a PPPoA service (BT line in the UK). I VPN'd in last night and used Telnet to add the commands 'ip mtu 1492' and 'ip tcp adjust-mss 1452' to my dialer interface. This hasn't made any difference. I've just upgraded the broadband service to 8 Mbps and when trying to download a file from the 'net, the progress window shows the internal speed drop down to 18Kbps - not much faster than dial up. Any ideas ?
