We have a Cisco 800 router (obviously now unsupported) which has always been very reliable. In recent weeks we get sudden internet connection dropout.

Our internet provider, in this instance the local telecom company have finally told us that on these occasions the router is training but not authenticating and that the password is missing from the router setup. If we re-boot the router the connection is fine - sometimes for days on end. Then suddenly in the middle of a session drop-out will occur. Seems the only cure so far is reboot but this does not help when I am home working and the router is at the office.

Having recently had another problem which we were told over a 5 week period was a problem at our end turned out to be a problem at their end; am therefore hesitant to spend £377 plus installation to discover the problem is theres again.

Has anyone dealt/heard of this problem in the past? Any ideas please???

I have---had an 837 do the same thing for a bit---the ISP finally got their RADIUS server to stop from screwing up. Doing a shut and then a no shut on both the ATM and Dialer interfaces also did the trick, but who wants to do that on a production box? Likely, it is the ISP's end, and they may want to charge you for their mistake. But like I said, I went through this like 6 or 7 times, all sporadic, and have not had the problem in about 6 months. I deal with AT&T, and I always talk to a man named Joe from India who is very nice and tells me to reboot everything, delete the Local Area Network Connection, and remake it, and then reboot everything again---I never do this, just hang up.

Thanks feel sure it isn't the router. Today it even re-connected without a re-boot!

Still interested if there are more cases of this from other users. May use it as part of my case. My isp has total monopoly here and I need some ammunition!
