Just some advice, on our Cisco 4500, we have a blade with 2 Gigabit fiber ports.

We have a new ISP who is going to present it's connection as fibre as SC

The ports on the blade look like rectangular slots, do I need to use a GBIC?

Thanks in advance!

You should make sure they are presenting in the correct type of fibre connection SX / LC etc. Then ensure the corresponding part is present in your switch. If you type the part number for the GBICS you have into Cisco.com or google it will show you the standards etc

Hi AJ, thanks for your response. They are going to present as an SC fibre connection. The switch has 2 gigabit slots in the Supervisor Engine V (WS X4516) and 5 slots in a Switching Module (WS X4306GB). Only thing is the slots are empty, there is nothing for the SC fibre connects to plug into? I think the component I need is a GBIC but am not sure.

Yes, in which case look for a fibre GBIC to go into these slots...

Cool, thanks.

I've just checked and the connection is a 'managed CPE router, 1000base LX SC-Duplex' connection. So I would need an LX / SC GBIC then?

I don't have any GBICs at the moment.

Excellent, nice one. Thanks for the info, this is much appreciated :-)
