We have a Cisco 3600 (shows up as a 3640 on telnet) and we are having problems with it. It is possible that there was a power surge that could be causing our problem. We use this router for our dial-up networking. It's not used too often but it has never caused us problems.
When I dial in from my laptop the modem answers, terminal window comes up and prompts me for a username and password, then I must type PPP Def to continue. This logs me onto our network. I have no problem doing this from my laptop. It is not working for anyone else. We've tried it from an Acer Tablet, an old Dell Laptop identical to mine, and a brand new Dell laptop. We even tried a much older Dell with Windows NT and it didn't work. We've reset the router. We've reset the modems, we've switched modems and tried different phone numbers. Nothing works, but mine continues to be fine.
I mentioned that a power surge may be the cause of our problems --- that's just a guess. One day the power went out and we found out we had a bad battery in one of our UPSs. Our KVM quit working so we had to remove it. It was after that we noticed the problem. Whether it is related or not I don't know but the fact that mine still works is what is puzzling to me. I also compared all of my settings with those having the problem. The settings were all the same. And those users did have it working before.
Hopefully I've given enough info that someone may know the answer. thank you
