Hi,
Im going to install a Cisco 2950T-24 switch this week.
Reading the cisco documentation it doesnt really mention much abut connecting via HTTP to manage the switch or setting the ip address of the switch.

Im upgrading my present switch (1548M) to a 2950. What would be a good plan to follow causing the least disruption to the network.

Im running 10/100 servers on a subnet of 192.168.246.0
Would the switch automatically detect this when servers are being connected to the ports?

The switch would no be detected automatically. What you need to do is to asign an IP address and subnet mask to the switch on the Admin VLAN 1 and make sure that you ports are configured correctly for whatever you are connecting to it. Also make sure you default-Gateway has been set. This is all trivial stuff and should be listed in the user manual.

If you don't want seperate vlans, you don't have to configure the switch. By default everything will be on vlan 1 and will 'speak' to each other. If workstations, servers etc.. all point correctly to one another you should be able to just plug it in.
