Hi Folks!

You can consider me a pretty newcomer in the world of Cisco and recently have purchased my second swith (a 2924 Catalyst w/12.0 IOS enterprise).

I cannot find the right info. to set a new password for it.
Upon boot up I receive a USERNAME prompt and then a password.

I've tried the conventional boot up process of holding down the LED button before shutting down and starting up the switch while still holding the button down until the 1st port of the switch light goes out. It then shows the following promt.

switch:

I've tried to enter the boot command and several others.

Does anyone have any suggestions for my Cisco 2924 switch?
Or any link that can resolve this issue?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all.

Thank you for your effort. Unfortunately I have used the exact site you gave me to no avail.

Any other insights would be appreciated.

Thanks again for your time.

Those are the instructions in the other post if you can't make it work then the unit may be defective . Did you do the following after you got to the switch: prompt.

Issue the flash_init command.

Vipergg,

God damn I'm a dummy. I did use the site you sent me and when I saw a certain command............can't recall right now, but I thought to myself this can't be it.

But, upon confirming to really complete the password recovery process............IT WORKED!!!!

I appreciate your time in trying to help me out.

I had another posting in setting up a basic network with 1 cisco router, cisco swith and a pc. I'm pretty aware of privileged mode, exec mode and global as well on the routers, but don't quite know the command to assign the IP address to let's say port 2 of the switch and also if I should do the following:

1) Connect straight cable from port 2 to my pc
2) Connect straight cable from port 1 (Mgmnt port) to my cisco router AUI port.
3) Connect straight cable from my LAN port of pc to port 2 of Cisco switch.

Does this sound correct so far? If not, would you mind clarifying and which command I need to configure for:
1) Switch
2) Router
3) PC

If I can ping to all devices.......THAT WOULD BE GREAT!
If it's too much asking I completely understand.

Thanks again for the insight on the PW recovery feature.
