What does the "spanning-tree portfast" mean below each interface? See below. How do you turn it off?

Example:

interface FastEthernet0/1
spanning-tree portfast

interface FastEthernet0/2
spanning-tree portfast

interface FastEthernet0/3
spanning-tree portfast

If you are going to have user pc's on the ports leave it on . This keeps spanning tree from going theu it complete cycle when the ports come which takes 50 seconds before the port will go into forwarding mode so unless the port is connected to another networking device leave that setting as it is .

You may want to also turn on BDPU guard just in case. I don't know any adverse affects to having this on except it shuts down a port when it receives a BDPU just in case a device that plugs into that port can participate in STP.
