hi all, my first thread and i'm already in trouble.:-(

just recently got hold of a second hand Cisco ws-2822 Switch, and me being the smart ass that i am decided to go ahead, and attempt to upgrade the firmware from version 5.37 to the latest version,

anyways, when i attempted to upgrade it the switch erased the old firmware before testing the new one (very clever on cisco's part), and now i'm stuck with a switch that wont work because i cant find a copy of version 5.37 to reload onto the switch. so i was wondering if any of you might know either a way around this problem or where i could obtain a copy.

cheers[thumbsup]

It got screwed up because I think you tried to put enterprise software on a standard switch . 5.37 was the last version for the standard version so it didn't need to be upgraded. Unfortuenatly if you don't have any maintenance it might be problem or if you have other of these switches you could copy it to a tftp server and then download it back in.

unfortunately I haven’t got another switch so that’s out the window, and Cisco wont help unless i register, and pay for some sort of maintenance contract bit of a waste for one switch, i tried to install cat2820A.9.00.04.bin i check it out on Cisco’s website it seemed to be compatible,

From what i googled it wont work with older style switches so this might explain why it wouldn’t except the image,

Thanks for the reply vipergg

Does anyone have a copy of the 5.37 image they could send me?

i think the filename is something like cat2820.537.bin but not actually sure

Go here and see if you can find one that will work. You should be using stand edition I beleive.
ftp://ftp.cisco.com/pub/lan/

Unfortunately it didn’t work they only have the same image I already got I downloaded from this path ftp://ftp.cisco.com/pub/lan/catalyst/2820-standard/cat2820A.9.00.04.bin
I pretty sure the switch can only accept upto version 5.37

This is the output from HyperTerminal when I try to upgrade:
