I was wondering if anyone has tried usning a NM-1E or NM-1FE in the module slot of a 2800 series router. Those are not listed but there must be a way to add an additional ethernet interface to these routers.

I haven't tried those pecific cards. If they aren't listed in the data-sheet section on Cisco's website, then they aren't supported. As for adding FastEthernet/GigabitEthernet interfaces, there are plenty of network modules and HWICs that support added switch ports for 2800 series routers. These ports generally can be used for switch ports or can be tunred into layer 3 router ports. Why do you think they call them ISRs (Integrated Service Routers).
