cisco 2701 & vpn help

Hi Everyone.

I'm new to VPNs and have one question for the pros.
1. in order to setup a vpn from one endpoint to another using cisco 2701, what should be the address scheme for both networks? Can they both reside in the 255.255.255.0 subnet? How about the ip range i.e. 192.168.1.x? Thanks.
